Some PIs handle corporate investigations. In this case, he or she could be called in to locate unwanted electronic surveillance, or to take a look at piracy issues or even copyright infringement.

Many PIs have law enforcement training (although some excellent investigators do not) and excellent administrative and note taking is a must when PIs are called upon to produce detailed records of their investigation in a court case.
